  1. VISITING YOUR HEADQUARTERS

  3. League Members and the general public  are always welcome during
  4. regular office hours (8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Monday through
  5. Friday). Tours of the Administrative Headquarters and the Maxim
  6. Memorial Station, W1AW, (two  different buildings) are given on
  7. the hours of 9, 10, 11 A.M. and 1, 2 and 3 P.M., but special
  8. times can be arranged.  Large groups should make  arrangements, a
  9. week in advance,  by writing to our address c/o the Membership
  10. Services Department or by calling 203-666-1541.  Please give the
  11. date and time of arrival and the number of people who will be
  12. coming.

  14. Your tour will include a description of the services and
  15. operations of various departments:  Field Services, Membership
  16. Services, Technical, Production, Advertising, Circulation,
  17. Business Services, Educational Activities  and Volunteer Examiner
  18. Coordinator.  Highlights  include the amateur radio museum, DXCC,
  19. QSL Bureau, the Lab, and of course, W1AW.

  21. W1AW  is open to visitors during normal operating hours:  from
  22. 1:00 P.M. until 1 A.M. on Mondays, 9 A.M. until 1 A.M. Tuesday
  23. through Friday, and from 3:30 P.M. to 1 A.M. on Saturdays and
  24. Sundays.  FCC  licensed amateurs may operate the station from 1 -
  25. 4  P.M. Monday through Friday.  Be sure to bring your current FCC
  26. amateur license or a photocopy.   Special arrangements must be
  27. made  for weekend operation; please call or write a week in
  28. advance.

  30. Headquarters and W1AW are closed on New Year's Day, President's
  31. Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day,
  32. Thanksgiving and the following Friday, and Christmas Day.

  34. Public Transportation
  35.  
  36. Most commercial airlines serve Hartford, Connecticut, through
  37. Bradley International Airport.  Many bus companies serve
  38. Hartford, Connecticut.  Check with your local carriers.  Amtrak
  39. provides rail service along a north-south line.  Taxi service is
  40. available from a number of carriers including Yellow Cab at (203)
  41. 666-6666.  Public bus transportation from Central Row in Hartford
  42. via the "New Britain P-line" brings you within 2 blocks of
  43. Headquarters at  the intersection of Hartford Avenue and Main
  44. Street (Newington).  Buses  leave at 5 minutes of the hour and 25
  45. minutes after the hour, Monday - Friday.  Exact change is

  49. FROM THE NORTH

  51. Take Interstate 91 south through Hartford to exit 28, which
  52. brings you to Route 5/15 South. Continue to the Route 175 exit. 
  53. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto Route 175 (Cedar
  54. Street).  In the center of Newington turn right onto Main Street,
  55. (Route 176).  ARRL Hq is on the left just past the second light. 
  56. Look for W1AW and the antenna farm.

  58. FROM THE BOSTON AREA
  59.  
  60. Get to Interstate 84 west.  In East Hartford, take exit 57, go
  61. over the Charter Oak Bridge to routes 5/15 south.  Continue to
  62. the Route 175 exit.  At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto
  63. Route 175 (Cedar Street).  In the center of Newington turn right
  64. onto Main Street, (Route 176).  ARRL Hq is on the left just past
  65. the second light.  Look for W1AW and the antenna farm.

  67. FROM THE PROVIDENCE, RI AREA
  68.  
  69. Take route 6 through rural eastern Connecticut, all the way to
  70. Bolton Notch.  Take route 384 west to Interstate 84 west.  In
  71. East Hartford, take exit 57, go over the Charter Oak Bridge to
  72. routes 5/15 south. Continue to the Route 175 exit.  At the end of
  73. the exit ramp, turn right onto Route 175 (Cedar Street).  In the
  74. center of Newington turn right onto Main Street, (Route 176). 
  75. ARRL Hq is on the left just past the second light.  Look for W1AW
  76. and the antenna farm.

  78. FROM THE SOUTHEAST

  80. Take Interstate 95 west to exit 69, route 9 north.  Follow route
  81. 9 to routes 5/15 north.  Take the route 176 exit (Main Street,
  82. Newington), a left-hand turn lane.  ARRL Hq is just on the left
  83. just past the seventh traffic light.  Look for W1AW and the
  84. antenna farm.

  86. FROM THE SOUTH

  88. Take Interstate 91 north to exit 21, route 372 west.  At route
  89. 5/15 North, head north.  Take the route 176 exit (Main Street,
  90. Newington), a left-hand turn lane.  ARRL Hq is just on the left
  91. just past the seventh traffic light.  Look for W1AW and the
  92. antenna farm.

  94. FROM THE NEW YORK CITY AREA
  95.  
  96. Take Interstate route 95 east to New Haven, CT.  Take Interstate
  97. 91 north to exit 21, route 372 west.  At route 5/15 North, head
  98. north.  Take the route 176 exit (Main Street, Newington), a
  99. left-hand turn lane.  ARRL Hq is just on the left just past the
  100. seventh traffic light.  Look for W1AW and the antenna farm.

  102. FROM WEST

  104. Take Interstate 84 to exit 41 (South Main Street, West Hartford). 
  105. At the end of the ramp turn right onto South Main Street.  At the
  106. second light, turn left onto New Britain Avenue.  At the 6th
  107. light (immediately after the railroad overpass), turn right onto
  108. South Street.  South Street's name changes to Main Street at the
  109. Newington town line.  ARRL Hq will be on the right hand side of
  110. the road at 225 Main Street.  Look for W1AW and the antenna farm.

  112. FROM THE ALBANY AREA

  114. Take Interstate 87 south to Interstate 90 east, the Mass Pike. 
  115. In Springfield, Massachusetts, get on Interstate 91 south.  Take
  116. Interstate 91 south through Hartford to exit 28, which brings you
  117. to Route 5/15 South.  Continue to the Route 175 exit.  At the end
  118. of the exit ramp, turn right onto Route 175 (Cedar Street).  In
  119. the center of Newington turn right onto Main Street, (Route 176). 
  120. ARRL Hq is on the left just past the second light.  Look for W1AW
  121. and the antenna farm.

  123. Oh, I didn't change the directions like we had talked about--
  124. 6th, seventh, 8th traffic lights.  I don't have any mile
  125. or near mile measurements.  I did change the typo that
  126. stated that South Street was Route 176.  Thank you.
